Monumental Western Art

The American West — both real and romanticized — is the center of Maura Allen’s work.

Starting on location at ranches and rodeos with her own photography, she magically weaves past and present, Old West and new, to create original contemporary paintings, sculpture and fine art glass pieces.

Starting Point

An award-winning photographer, Maura spends weeks at a time on the road scouting at rodeos and ranches for strong images and moments to tell the story of today’s West. With 40+ years experience behind the camera, she has a proven sense for moments with cinematic quality—and an understanding not every great photographic image is the starting point for a strong painting. Back in her Prescott AZ studio, the artist deconstructs her photographic images to create original paintings and glass objects.

Here’s a look at how she sees the West.

About the Artist

Shown and sold by top galleries and consultants for 20+ years, Maura Allen’s fine art originals combine her black and white photography of the American West, historic elements, story and strong silhouette, infusing a trademark “past is always present” ethos.
